It all started with a suggestion from a parent, and County librarian Veronica Estrada ran with it and created a unique program called Sensory Playtime at the La Mesa Library.
Sensory play is so important! It provides a way to experience physical sensations in a safe way. These are baby steps towards expanding the amount and type of sensory experiences. As a mom, I've seen these visits become transformative! Offering them at a library takes down the fiscal barrier that so many families face. Many years ago the visits were $100 each - plus speech therapy, and every thing else. It can be a fiscal mountain that many parents cannot overcome, especially if they have lower wage jobs, limited transportation etc. Congratulations Veronica Estrada - you are truly a life changer!!
