Hello All!
Gender is a complex, social construct that can be damaging to adolescents when gender stereotypes are perpetuated. I wanted to begin a health communication campaign that begins a community conversation about gender and the gender stereotypes present in our everyday lives. I chose to promote this campaign with three items.
1. An infographic that is targeted towards adolescents to help them understand how how gender stereotypes can harm us personally and others around us. This infographic focuses on ways to build resiliency to harmful gender stereotypes.
2. A brochure that promotes a (not yet developed) program based off of a program called Manhood 2.0 developed by an NGO named Promundo. This program works with adolescents in schools to help them understand gender, what it means to/how it affects them and their peers, and how they can better support and respect each other regardless of differences in gender identity and/or presentation.
3. A podcast interview where my friend and I discuss gender and effects of gender stereotyping. My friend has a degree in sociology with a specialization in gender and sexuality, and is also a high school teacher at a title one school in the US. We have a casual conversation about gender to educate people, but also to just encourage listeners to think about gender and how it affects them personally and those around them.
All three communication campaign items are attached below for any one to look at or listen too.
Best,
Zoe Muzyczka
