Five of our Board Members hosted the Executive Director and the Training Coordinator of the Maine Resilience Building Network, our statewide ACEs advocacy group. We spent three hours (including a potluck working lunch) together at the Van Buren Community Center planning avenues of collaboration between VBRP and MRBN in the coming year.
MRBN will be providing us with technical assistance, speakers, and resources as we embark upon a strengths-based appreciative inquiry approach to assessing the community needs and resources that will direct our educational, community engagement, and planning activities in the coming year.
In mid-October we will be providing initial training to the staff of our community school, and at the end of the month we are hosting a community lunch. After the lunch the youngsters will head for the gym and the adults will view the film "Broken Places" after which we will discuss the intergenerational effects of ACES as they present in our own community. In November we will continue the process of examining ACEs and their effects in our town so that we can begin to form a collaborative effort to build and sustain resilience in our community and its people.
