Toxic stress occurs when a child experiences strong, frequent, and/or prolonged adversity without adequate adult support. This prolonged activation of the stress response systems can have a cumulative toll on an individual's physical mental health. What does this mean for babies born into the disadvantages of poverty?

A new documentary from Yahoo News, "Baby Brain," explores the relationship between toxic stress and intergenerational poverty, and the ways we can level the playing field for babies born into poverty.
