“Shelter Life” is a nine-episode documentary series about VCAS, produced and directed by Stephen Rocha, of Simi Valley, who donated his services. The series is being presented in three showings throughout the summer. The first three episodes, which introduced the shelter and its no-kill policy, were shown Saturday. The rest will be shown over the next two Saturdays.
VCAS Director Tara Diller said volunteers are needed to support the staff of 23 people who run the two Ventura County shelters — one in Camarillo, the other in Simi Valley — in providing care for the often traumatized animals.
She feels there is a stigma attached to shelters, so people tend to avoid them. The beginning of "Shelter Life" is designed to serve as “an introduction to who we are,” she said.
