A terrific networking opportunity took place on June 3 in downtown Washington, DC when my daughter, ACEs Connection member Liz Castaneda, Peer Projects Coordinator for Via Hope in Austin, TX (left), along with her son Mateas, and I (center) met for lunch with Leah Harris, trauma informed care specialist/director of consumer affairs at the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors and trainer with the National Center for Trauma Informed Care (right). Liz was in town for a meeting of Mental Health America on peer services. I’ve been active with the new Trauma Informed DC group that was conceived and launched by Leah who was inspired by other trauma-informed communities around the country. The group will be holding a brown bag networking lunch on June 12 and a screening of Wounded Places on July 16. A recent pre-premiere of Paper Tigers, sponsored by ACEs Connection Network and the Kennedy Forum, was held May 12 in Washington to help launch the DC initiative.
