Did you know that…
- Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) such as ongoing abuse, neglect, or witnessing violence at home or in the community may lead to toxic stress that can have a negative lifelong impact on health and well-being?
- ACEs are extremely common, affecting more than 60% of the general population?
- ACEs are responsible for a big chunk of workplace absenteeism, and for costs in health care, emergency response, mental health and criminal justice?
- Traumatic stress can interfere with childrens' ability to learn and thrive at school, hurting their future prospects for education and employment?
- “Historical trauma” from racism, genocide of Native Americans, and other forms of oppression can have an intergenerational impact?
The impacts of traumatic stress can be devastating. But we are not helpless to change things! To address these complex and connected social and health problems, it will take a village. We invite you to join us today!
About us: TIDC is a newly-forming coalition of individuals and organizations seeking 1) to raise awareness of the prevalence and impact of ACEs and adult trauma in the Washington, DC metro area and 2) to promote collaboration to address the causes of trauma and toxic stress in youth and adults, and promote healing and wellness.
Trauma Informed DC is part of the ACEs Connection Network, an online network of communities across the U.S. seeking to become trauma-sensitive.
