In light of the recent killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and far too many others, Greater Columbia Accountable Community of Health (GCACH) mourns with the nation in pain, anger and frustration. Together we stand with the Black community and all allies in the fight against racism and injustice, and we say with one voice, Black Lives Matter.
Our mission at GCACH is to advance the health of our population by decreasing health disparities and empowering individuals and communities. As an organization, we are working to improve the health of communities across our nine-county regionβof which health equity and social determinants of health are vital components. Unacceptable actions such as systemic racism and other forms of oppression, housing inequity, economic injustice, and the inequitable allocation of educational resources must be eradicated to achieve healthy communities.
GCACH stands together with Black, Latino, immigrant, refugee, LGBTQ+, Yakama Nation and other underserved populations in the pursuit of eliminating all inequities and injustices. As an organization, we will continue to convene, collaborate and learn from leaders across our communities. Racism is a public health crisis and we at GCACH stand in the fight to end this injustice because Black Lives Matter.
Statement approved by the Greater Columbia Accountable Community of Health Board of Directors on Thursday, June 18, 2020.
