At the beginning of May, Governor Inslee announced a four-stage phase in for lifting of restrictions – starting with allowing retail curbside pick-up, automobile sales and car washes – with a minimum of three weeks between each phase. There has already been the easing of some restrictions, including the resumption of existing construction projects and allowing day use activities at state parks and some outdoor recreation like hunting, golfing and fishing, along with the resumption of non-urgent surgeries.
For many of us, this is welcome news. Many business sectors, including hospitality, retail, and construction, have been impacted with significant job losses because of the pandemic and subsequent restrictions. With restrictions easing and business activities resuming, the question now arises as to how should different sectors and the community respond? The theme of this Leadership Council meeting will be to discuss what economic recovery efforts should look like in our region going forward. We hope to bring in the perspective of different community sectors, such as construction, agriculture and public health. This interesting conversation may help community leaders define economic recovery and gain confidence in taking the necessary steps to move forward to open up sectors of our economy, while protecting employees, employers and the general public.
The convening will take place on Thursday, May 21, 2020 from 9:00 am - 11:30 am via teleconference. Please plan on joining us.
