The National Weather Service is expecting a heat wave to start today (8/14) and last through at least Wednesday (8/19). More than 32 million Californians live in areas that will be under an Excessive Heat Warning or Heat Advisory during this time. To help stay cool, here are some cooling centers open in Yolo County:
- Multi-Purpose Room at the Davis Senior Center
646 A Street in Davis
Open 8/14-8/19 from 12 pm - 7 pm.
Residents must wear a face covering and social distance while at the cooling center.

Open 8/14 till weather conditions change from 12 pm - 9 pm.

In addition, here are some tips to conserve electricity during the heat wave:
- Adjust your thermostat to 78 degrees or higher (if your health permits it).
- Close drapes/curtains and turn off unnecessary lighting.
- Unplug phone chargers, power strips and other equipment when not in use.
Don't forget to:
- Drink plenty of water
- Avoid outdoor strenuous activity
- Check on the elderly, children and pets
- If you're outside wear sunscreen, sunglasses and/or a hat
- Plan to be in an air-conditioned room or building if possible
