Developing a kinder relationship with yourself: A Course

Spring Mindfulness Retreat

Have you heard of vicarious, or secondary trauma? It is a term to describe the impact of caring for others who are the direct victims of traumas. A fact sheet on Vicarious Trauma is attached to this post.

One of the ways to combat the effects of Vicarious Trauma is conscious self-care. An organization called Compassion Habit offers an 8 session course on developing self-compassion for $395.

From the organizer: "The format is structured as a course rather than group therapy.  We had several therapists, coaches, and MD’s take the course in the Fall. Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an empirically-supported, 8-week, training program designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion. Based on the groundbreaking research of Kristin Neff and the clinical expertise of Christopher Germer, MSC teaches core principles and practices that enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with kindness, care and understanding."

The course meets as follows:

  • 8 Sundays 1-4pm
  • March 6 – May 1, 2016, skipping 3/27 (due to holiday)
  • April 10th is a full-day retreat 9-5pm
