First 5 Yolo helped more than 5,000 children last year [DavisEnterprise.com]

First 5 Yolo Children and Families Commission released its annual evaluation report on Friday, showing that it invested $3.1 million in local programs and services and served 5,400 children during fiscal year 2014-15.

When adding in parents and other family members, more than 10,000 Yolo County residents were helped by First 5 Yolo grants, the commission reported. Programs funded focused on increasing the number of Yolo County children who are healthy and ready to learn as they enter kindergarten, including key programs to strengthen the local foster care system, home visiting services, case management and high-quality preschool.

....The Yolo County Children’s Alliance received financial support for several of its programs including the Step by Step/Paso a Paso home-visiting program for families at-risk for adverse childhood experiences. The support is offered from prenatal to the child’s 3rd birthday and helps families work collaboratively with program staff to prioritize individual needs and set goals in areas such as the home environment, accessing needed services, and parent/child behavior.
