I very much enjoyed watching this youtube video about Philadelphia's long term community collaboration toward building a trauma-informed city. The video was broadcast live on Tuesday May 26. There were several nuggets of wisdom from featured speaker Sandy Bloom, who has conducted interviews with several leaders in trauma-informed practice.
Bloom shared a theory of change, and noted the central role that small non-profits have in moving this work forward. It will be the outcomes produced in the non-profit world, that will ultimately persuade city, state and federal governments to take action.
Most importantly, she advised/reminded that this cultural shift will take decades to fully saturate. Because we won't see the fruits of our efforts for a long time to come, messages of hope are needed to keep fueling the fire.
