Message from Tessa Smith, Family Partner/Outreach Specialist II with Yolo County HHSA:
Earlier this year, Yolo County was preparing to join Sac and Solano counties in hosting a Youth Innovation Lab sponsored by the Mental Health Oversight and Accountability Commission’s Youth Innovation Project Committee. Due to Covid-19, the event was canceled. Like so many events, we are now proceeding with this important endeavor using a virtual platform for engagement. In the spirit of “Nothing about us, without us,” this is a youth-led, adult ally gathering to brainstorm strategies and engagement that supports youth mental health in our schools. Our MHSA Unit is requesting your assistance in identifying youth interested in sharing their voice and choice regarding youth mental health prevention and early intervention programming, and/or a leadership opportunity.
The focus of the idea lab remains “increasing prevention and early intervention services in schools using youth-led approaches”. This Committee has always included an equity lens in their focus and will continue to prepare to facilitate meaningful conversations in a safe space. And, it is hoped that some of the learning can contribute to the conversation of how to support student mental wellness in an online education environment.
The new dates and times for the Youth Innovation Lab are: August 17th and 18th from 3:30-6pm each day. For those interested in taking a leadership role in this convening, there is a meeting on July 30th. I have attached the original background information for this convening, and a new flyer will follow this message shortly. Interested youth, and those you would like us to reach out to, can message MHSA-MHTrainings@yolocounty.org or call Tessa Smith at 530-204-7363.
