RESOURCE: Broken Brain 2 by Dr. Mark Hyman

Dr Hyman is a practicing family physician, a ten-time #1 New York Times bestselling author, and an internationally recognized leader, speaker, educator, and advocate in his field. He is dedicated to tackling the root causes of chronic disease by harnessing the power of Functional Medicine to transform healthcare and a proponent of ACEs.  Read below about his new docu-series:

My new docu-series, Broken Brain 2: Body-Mind Connection, takes a comprehensive look at emotional trauma and your health and how types of traumas can present as disease, and most importantly what you can do about it. It’s incredible how much power the mind has over the physical body. You can watch the entire 8-part series for free starting on April 3, 2019. Just register right here!

The word “trauma” means more than physical injury.  We can experience emotional and mental trauma, too, and they can influence our health on a deep and complex level.

In fact, adverse childhood experiences, or ACEs, have been researched for just this reason. ACEs include emotional, physical, and sexual abuse; witnessing domestic violence; parental separation or divorce; and growing up in a household where members were mentally ill, substance abusers, or sent to prison.

Studies have linked high scores in various types of ACEs with an increased risk of premature deathdepressive disorders, and even heart disease. The way we hold on to the past, (which can be much deeper than we realize) has profound impacts on our physical health.

Situations that have at one point caused emotional stress and were never fully addressed or confronted can harm our mental, emotional, and physical statesall at once.

Most of us have been traumatized in one way or another throughout life, but there is hope for the future of our health.

Confronting our emotional traumas is just as important for our overall wellbeing as addressing a traumatic injury. We can work to reset the neural pathways associated with the trauma, work through the negative beliefs that have stemmed from it, and come out happier and more balanced than ever before. Our brains want to bounce back, we just have to give them the right inputs.

It’s scary—I know because I’ve done it, but digging into toxic emotions and beliefs opens you up to a whole new level of health.

I am going to walk you through some of the exercises that have been so valuable for me in working through my toughest emotional layers, together with my coach, an expert on beliefs and intentional living, Shelly Lefkoe.

Digging deep into our emotional scars and mental dialogue produces dramatic life changes, especially when it comes to healing the body. Cultivating a positive mindset and expecting positive outcomes can, in fact, lead to more successful healing.

In Broken Brain 2, we are going to discuss all of these topics—trauma, toxic beliefs, mindset—and the power of the body-mind connection and innovative ways to support it for optimal health. We also take a dynamic look at other essential aspects to achieving wellness, like addressing environmental toxicity, the heart-brain connection, the immune system, nutrigenomics, inflammation, and so much more.

I hope you'll join us and take advantage of all the life-changing information Broken Brain 2 has to offer.

Wishing you health and happiness,
Mark Hyman, MD

PS - It's clear that health is multifaceted. And though we're often made to feel like it's purely our personal decisions that are failing us, there are also political, social, economic, and environmental influences impacting our ability to be well. If you're ready to take a new perspective on public health, check out my conversation with Dr. Sonia Angell on this week's episode of The Doctor's Farmacy.
