UpStander Carnival Sunday, October 15th, 2-4 pm, Vets Memorial, Davis

At some time, every kid becomes a bystander — someone who witnesses bullying but doesn’t get involved out of fear or lack of knowing what to do.

But that child can be an “upstander” instead — the person who knows what’s happening is wrong and does something to make things right. It takes courage to speak up on someone’s behalf.

The coalition will host a free Upstander Carnival for pre-school through elementary-aged children from 2 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, at the Veterans’ Memorial Center, 203 E. 14th St. Familiar carnival games will feature an added element of learning to be an “upstander.”

There also will be free prizes, tote-bag giveaways to early arrivers, free raffles, a bounce house, face painting, and pizza for sale.

Sponsors include the Davis Sunrise Rotary, First Five Yolo, Davis Odd Fellows, Rocknasium, Cultivé Yogurt, YoloBerry Yogurt, The Avid Reader, Teach your Children, The Hot Dogger, Culture C.O.O.P., DJUCD, Be Happy Project, UCD Best Buddies, Emerson Peer Helpers, FYDC, TESE Foundation, Uniting for Racial Justice, Whites Uniting for Racial Justice, Yolo County Library, Yolo County District Attorney, Lee Middle  School, Empower Yolo and the city of Davis Human Relations Commission.
