· 2020 Grads and Grief in a Pandemic: For high school seniors, COVID-19 has meant that important events like graduation or prom couldn't happen. Mental health experts say U.S. teens were experiencing alarming levels of anxiety and depression before COVID-19. Now, they say kids have increased feelings of loss. · Supportive Parenting Best for Kids: In a new study, researchers followed 207 children in kindergarten, first, and second grades from high-risk, urban communities who were at risk for aggressive behaviors when they started school. They observed parents’ interaction with the children, and teachers reported on the kids’ behavior each year. Results found that parents who were emotionally supportive had kids who did not become more aggressive as they grew older. On the flip side, aggressive behavior worsened each year in kids whose parents were less emotionally supportive.
