This is a great opportunity to give thought and importance to the skills and exposures needed in today’s society to raise healthy children. For foster and adoptive parents, this is especially of value, as most of our children have come from challenging early situations. Taking this in order, we begin with looking at the critical time of early brain development. The impact that domestic violence, drugs and other mayhem to the neonate and during infancy has on the developing child, and moving on to the ramifications of abuse and neglect. This will be a time of looking forward and to share the wisdom of the group in overcoming challenges – particularly those faced by children in foster care – and making childhood the most it can be.
