Yolo County Racial Equity Learning Group - Please join us!

Dear Colleagues --We would like to invite you to an ongoing Racial Equity Learning Group for school counselors and for Yolo County Staff working directly with children and families, led by Tessa Smith of Yolo County Health and Human Services Agency and Kate Snow of Davis Joint Unified School District.

Tessa is an Outreach Specialist in the Mental Health Services Act Unit of Yolo County HHSA doing mental health and racial equity education. Kate, as Climate Coordinator for DJUSD, works on making schools conducive to learning for all by assessing school climate and advising and implementing ways to improve it.  We both have many years of experience leading conversations on race, class, privilege and cultural competency, and this is our third year of co-facilitating multi-racial group conversations in this format in DJUSD. This year we are expanding our invitation to learn and grow to:

·       School District Counselors

·       Social Workers

·       Home Visiting Nurses

The group will meet for an hour and a half, two times per month, and will use the Group Peer Support model, as well as Tessa’s and Kate’s experiences and perspectives, to provide a courageous space for learning, growth, and connection around issues of race, racism, and racial equity, as well as other aspects of oppression and liberation.  All are welcome. The only prerequisite is a desire to learn and connect.

The first group will be held Wednesday, November 18 from 10:00-11:30am.  We will then meet on the first and third Wednesday mornings after that (Dec 2, Dec 16, and so on).

To RSVP, send a reply to this email and we’ll send you the Zoom link

For questions, email us, or, Kate’s cell phone is 530-312-4672, and Tessa's is 530-204-7363.

We are looking forward to having you join our offering at our first meeting on November 18.

Warmly,

Tessa and Kate
