Introduction to ICWA 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
History: why ICWA was enacted; Fundamental compliance: who is protected and how ICWA works; Protection: rights under ICWA and where to seek help; and cultural implications.
ICWA’s Technical Requirements 1:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.
Requirements for state court, including: Application, notice, jurisdiction, transfer, intervention, active efforts, and placement preferences.

Positive Indian Parenting (PIP) 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Traditional Indian parenting practices: storytelling, cradleboard, harmony, lessons of nature, behavior management, and positive reinforcement. PIP also address the historic impact of boarding schools, forced assimilation and intergenerational trauma. The training will focus on the following modules:
Session I: Orientation/Traditional Parenting
Session II: Lessons of the Storyteller
Session V: Traditional Behavior Management
Session VI: Lessons of Mother Nature
Lunch will be provided on both days.
