The impact of maltreatment and extreme stress in the first three years of life is often dismissed or unrecognized. Because children typically can’t recall early life experience it is often believed that early life experience has no lasting impact on development. Neuroscience has indicated that not only is this notion false, but our youngest children are also at their most vulnerable state of development. The behavior challenges that we often see in older children often have their roots in the first three years of life.

The goal of this edWebinar is to help caregivers and advocates of young children recognize the many types of extreme stress and maltreatment that infants, toddlers, and twos may experience, and know how to create positive caregiving environments that set children on a positive developmental trajectory. Viewers learn:

  • The role of rhythm and movement in building healthy brains
  • The importance of predictable, consistent reciprocal interactions
  • The key elements of an emotionally safe environment
  • The role of play in building self-confidence and self-regulation

This recorded edWebinar is of interest to PreK-3 teachers and school leaders.
