What is your interest in PACEs and resilience science?
As a corporate trainer for a large, international corporation, chartered with training adult employees in interpersonal communication skills it occurred to me that these students were also parents and were sorely deficient in life coping skills – resilience. It occurred to me that 1) many possessed bad defense mechanisms/habits; 2) they could not teach their children skills that they did not possess. As a mother of 3 biological and 2 bonus children, I witnessed among my children’s peers 1) 13-year-old suicide; 2) multiple drug overdoses; 3) 1-alcohol poisoning; 4) a stupid, self-destructive behavior with an irreversible long-term consequence; 5) the school shootings (not in my children’s schools) rather, those that the rest of the world witnessed… It occurred to me that many of these children did not possess skills to deal with disappointment, bullies, and negative feelings. The interpersonal communication skills that I taught to adults could help children develop resilience to face and overcome inevitable adversity that accompanies a human life. The courses that could benefit every child from pre-school to graduate school, included: Thriving on Change; Conflict Resolution; How to Deliver Feedback (constructively); Effectivee Communication… I would add, How to Receive Feedback; How to transform negative emotions into powerful positive energy for change. My interest seems related to ACE's. Is this a forum with an interest in these life skill trainings?
If you're part of a community-based PACEs initiative, which one?
I only just heard of ACEs yesterday!
