Highlights of my year include time spent and powerful discussions with CRC Accelerator and Fellowship participants. Insight shared by our dedicated participants, graduates, and fellows about what they learned about trauma-informed awareness, resilience building, and PACEs science as a result of the CRC will continue to inspire the movement.
In honor of Black Maternal Health Week, I was invited by Coordinated Care Services, Inc. (CCSI) to be a guest contributor to their newsletter. After careful consideration I wrote Centering the Black Feminist Perspective: Supremacy Culture is the Barrier Black Maternal Health Never Needed.
As we’ve recently announced, the CRC Accelerator is taking an indefinite hiatus, but this moment of growth is anything but goodbye. Two years into this unique program, we are aware of the incredible impact access can have on PACEs initiatives and we now have a CRC Fellowship that grows with each CRC graduate.
We are seeking a few additional leaders and experts in education to join as panelists for a special closed meeting roundtable discussion taking place on 4/9 @ 11:00 am - 2:30 pm (ET). Topics will include equitable access to quality education for children of African descent, the viability of a whole-person education for children of African descent, providing school children of African descent tools for healing and resilience, and ensuring that the education of children of African descent...
March marks the final month of the granting period for the CRC Accelerator. Here are the next steps for certification or a certificate of participation.
In an effort to keep our free programs accessible to California during a critical time in the PACEs movement, we'd like to learn more about the role PACEs Connection programs have played in your California PACEs initiatives and the impact of your programs.
Nationally recognized days of awareness remind us of important civil and human rights movements led by Black and African-American communities and social justice advocates. February puts leadership, education, access, justice, policy, and governance under the spotlight. Through a PACEs science lens, this month is an opportunity to consider trauma-informed transformation through a PACEs science lens as the way forward.
I’m no stranger to the human rights of Black and Brown people being politicized as a supremacy culture tactic. As a Black/African-American woman and assault survivor, I have as many thoughts about violence and Atrocious Cultural Experiences (ACEs) as I do the importance of speaking from the heart.
As we head into our full CRC curriculum this January, we invite current and future CRC Accelerator participants to join us with collective care and self care in mind.
To prepare for the year ahead, we have a few very special announcements we’re excited to share. First, we’d like to take a moment to acknowledge the 700+ community champions, facilitators, managers, and advocates in our COOP and Growing Resilient Communities program for your commitment.
Something amazing keeps happening in our CRC Accelerator program that we want to shout out from the rooftops this December. Thanks to our committed participants, the number of CRC graduates keeps increasing! The number of graduates has increased by 15x this year. As we head into a new year, w e are grateful for the unique role CRC Accelerator participants have played in expanding the PACEs movement through the willingness to explore healing-centered practices through a PACEs science lens.
As the world sees an increased need for trauma-informed interventions and systems transformation, PACEs Connection proudly announces the launch of the Creating Resilient Communities (CRC) Fellowship program created to empower graduates of the CRC Accelerator program.
Calling all advertisers, PACEs Connection is excited to announce advertising opportunities in our newly launched History. Culture. Trauma. podcast media kit.
Beyond Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), our members seek to deeply understand strengths-based insights embedded in the remaining ACEs quadrant: Adverse Community Environments, Adverse Climate Experiences, and Atrocious Cultural Experiences.
Awareness about health outcomes are as much about the long-term impact caused by adverse childhood experiences as they are by positive childhood experiences. By providing education on trauma-informed awareness and resilience building frameworks, the CRC Accelerator certification is a tool for both.
By Trisha Pasricha, Photo: Washington Post Illustration/iStock, The Washington Post, September 25, 2023 Q: Doctors don’t seem to take me seriously when I tell them I’m in pain. Why don’t they believe how much I’m suffering? A: Pain is consistently among the most common reasons people go to the emergency room , and at least 1 in 5 Americans experience chronic pain. But it’s possible your doctor’s biases and personal experiences with pain are impacting your care. Many physicians are wary about...
By Annalisa Merelli, Photo: Hannah McKay/Pool/AFP via Getty Images, STAT, September 18, 2023 I n the wake of growing alarm over the disproportionately high rates of maternal mortality in the U.S., maternal health experts have been pushing for changes — including expanding the midwife workforce. Studies have shown that deliveries attended by midwives tend to have fewer complications and better outcomes, partially because midwife training relies less on medical intervention, leading to fewer...
As we head into the fall, it’s abundantly clear that whether we like it or not, we have entered a paradigm shift. There’s no way to deny that the devastating fallout from racism, the denial of human rights, and social injustice issues is at an all time high. If we could wish away economic uncertainty, fires and extreme weather caused by global warming, and an all-but-promised pandemic surge, we probably would. These reminders are at an all-too-real pique this time of year, especially for...
PACEs Connection has been in the throes of a powerful collaboration about trauma-informed awareness, resilience, relationship and community building and mobilization with the Resilient Yolo team. We’re days away from the 2023 Resilient Yolo Summit , a call to action for Yoloans to connect with neighbors, reflect on experiences, and act together for a trauma-informed and resilient Yolo. Yolo County, which is said to draw its name from a Patwin Native American name Yo-loy, meaning “a place...
We have an abridged *CRC* curriculum this August, including a few rescheduled events. The full CRC curriculum will resume in September. Until then, members can take a splash in our CRC community forum.
July is a time to celebrate all summer has to offer by building bridges and innovating with community to get to the heart of trauma-informed awareness and resilience building. This month, we’ve added new July dates to the summer 2023 *CRC* curriculum—but that’s only half of the good news. Last year, the CRC began as a pilot program. Now that it's evolved, what better time to bring accelerator participants together in a PACEs Connection CRC community than the summer? We are proud to announce...
Beyond the now familiar tip-off that draws our attention to the dysfunction of patriarchal power structures that favor exclusion from the table of equity—rather than inclusion—maybe we should be asking ourselves what trauma-informed values the new table could be founded on through a PACEs science lens.
PACEs Connection is excited to roll out our summer 2023 *CRC* curriculum dates. Members who complete the CRC will qualify for a fall 2023 fellowship program.
The complications of historical trauma have played a major role in harming relationships in Black/African-American families for generations. History was spoken about as an attempt to heal, but in a world that refused to see Black/African American people as whole people deserving of human rights, very little was spoken about the grieving process that accompanies knowing our story.
The CRC accelerator will cover fundamental topics such as understanding PACEs science, community organizing, multi-sector collaboration, and strategic planning; as well as several special topics. Participants who complete all events in the series will receive a Certificate of Completion.
I look forward to building on these shared values with the PACEs Connection team: to empower people, families, communities, and organizations with the human-focused tools and living resources needed for a better world.
