What is your interest in PACEs and resilience science?
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) play a major role in the lives of our Maternal Child Adolescent Health's staff, home visitors (nurses and social workers), and our clients. It has been shown that people in "helping professions" such as nurses and social workers have high scores of ACEs. Not only does this impact the work public health workers face but also the secondary trauma we endure through our work of helping underserved populations. Our in-crisis or high-risk clients and their families, our client is the whole family, have high scores of ACEs and typically face ACEs on a daily basis. Having both a history of ACEs and continued toxic stress in daily living put our clients and their families at greater risk for poor physical health, mental health, and social outcomes. Maternal Child Adolescent Health home visiting services utilizes the ACEs concept in our two-generational approach to improve lifelong social and health outcomes in mothers and their children.
