What is it you do for a living? (Parenting, volunteering, CEO of social service organization, etc.)

Currently I coach public, urban high school educators in Los Angeles but am actively seeking new employment. I completed my doctoral work at UCLA (EdD) in June and am looking for a platform through which I can advocate for trauma-informed education practices at the systems-level.

What organization(s) do you volunteer or work for?

The Center for Powerful Public Schools (until October 2014).

What is your interest in PACEs and resilience science?

My research concentrates on how urban high school teachers are impacted by the violent death (gang/gun related) of their students. I examine how teachers' professional identity is reconstructed, the factors that influence their cognitive appraisal and resilience, and most importantly, what supports they report to need in the face of a student's death. I am passionate about examining violence and trauma that is compounded and chronic, not just episodic, and pay close attention to vicarious secondary trauma. If we are concentrating so much effort on making sure that students arrive to school ready to learn, then we must pay equal effort to ensuring that teachers arrive to school ready to teach, and school leaders arrive to schools ready to lead.
