What is it you do for a living? (Parenting, volunteering, CEO of social service organization, etc.)

I’m a nurse. Since 2012 after our 15 year old son and my husband died in the same month, both of cancer, both in a very raw way, I am not able to work as a nurse any more. For 5 years I was not able to work at all. I have a private Trauma Therapist since 2014. In spring 2017 I found out about and read Bessel van der Kolk’s book “ The Body keeps the Score”, which was not easy. Reading was almost impossible back then, I read out loud to myself about 5 pages a day while walking in my livingroom. I needed to understand more about trauma. I then chose several body oriented things that were available for me to help for my healing. In fall 2017 I was diagnosed with PTSD - through participating in a PTSD/MRI Drug testing at Charité Berlin. ( I was very scared, but I needed to know if I “fit” for that study) This is where I first heard of the influence of ACE‘s and then started to realize that my childhood was “not that easy”. Not many regular psychologist know how to diagnose PTSD and it is nearly impossible to „get in“ .. I had tried very hard with no success. In fall 2017 I was able to start working in minijob after I felt some shift and change through understanding about trauma through Bessel’s book and then in summer taking a trauma sensitive yoga class. I stayed with Bikram Yoga after that and also started Neurofeedback training that summer, learned some of TRE and after being diagnosed with PTSD found a “Rolfing Therapist” .. therapist who smoothens the fascia and helps release trauma related tension that is kept in the body. I’m trying to be the mother of two children, 24 and almost 26 years old who lived through the nightmare of sickness, suffering, death and also living with a mother who was/is not herself any more .. still working on it. I am thankful for what I learned so far and for still being alive.

What organization(s) do you volunteer or work for?

would like to help to get something started ..

What is your interest in PACEs and resilience science?

I would like to help to raise awareness about ACE in Germany .. if I can.

If you're part of a community-based PACEs initiative, which one?

I think there are none in Germany
