What is it you do for a living? (Parenting, volunteering, CEO of social service organization, etc.)
I am a social worker, youth advocate and healer who currently directs a wellness program at a non-profit in the City of Camden, NJ. I pride myself in helping to cultivate safe spaces for folks to begin their healing journey.
What organization(s) do you volunteer or work for?
I work for Urban Promise, a youth development organization in the City of Camden. I am also an active member of Healing10 and a 2020 Culture of Health leader with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
What is your interest in PACEs and resilience science?
I oversee a Wellness program within our agency whose mission it is to help reduce the impact of toxic stress on our children/families through a holistic/trauma-informed approach that supports their overall well-being. We have begun the work of becoming a trauma-informed organization and have started integrating healing principle within our schools, training staff and working as a community to expand staff awareness of ACES/trauma as well as equip staff with tools to help support our children/youth. We are also working to promote resilience by creating opportunities for youth to achieve competence through youth employment, experiential learning and mental health services that support positive youth development.
