In 2007, Richmond, CA, had one of the highest murder rates in the US. The city created the Office of Neighborhood Safety to engage with those directly involved in the violence.

So moving. I worked in Richmond for 14 years and to see what the Office of Neighborhood Safety is doing gives me some hope. So many good and kind people living in these neighborhoods. If crime goes back up it's up to the community to invest in the young people. It's the humane thing to do. Give them jobs, respect, and things to do that can help them see a future.
