Jaak Panskeep took rat pups and removed he right frontal lobes - the area of the brain associated with emotional control and social interaction - without the right frontal lobes the rats played like crazy and then he gave them therapeutic doses of stimulant medications (ones used for ADHD) and the pups became like "zombies". Â His theory is that play is important in development to learn appropriate social interaction and without play --- pups grew up very socially "awakard". Â Play is important and it is important to understand whether stimulant medications which inhibit play are negatively affecting positive brain development.Â
