Hello,

Our community Fire Department wants to offer a 20-30 minute online module to introduce the fire fighters to the concept of ACEs. This is part of a community-wide effort to improve mental health by raising awareness of ACEs. Does anyone know of an introductory module that would be easily consumable by our FD, that could be used without violating proprietary regs?

Thank you!

Good morning Debbie,

I can point you to a ton of on line free resources if you want to email me.

I attended a workshop a few years ago for first responders entitled

"emotional armor for first responders", it was for police and firefighters. It was a two day workshop.

I have been a FF/EMT and am also a NEAR/Trauma informed trainer, I am also a mental health and child mental health professional.

I think it might be useful to get clear about your objective......are you trying to educate FF about basic ACES? (30 minutes would be a brief intro), Dr. Felitta has a few good you tube presentations.

I would be glad to help you hone in and find what you need or help you create it.

Thank you, Michael,

Our community's Fire Chief is asking for a brief (20-25 min.) online module that he could insert into his training protocols to provide his fire fighters with basic information about ACEs. We are undertaking a community-wide awareness effort on ACEs with identified first ring priority to be trained as our teaching and school staffs, our PD and FD, and our ER staff at the large hospital in our community. Because the Fire Dept. staff works in shifts, training is best presented in personally consumable modules - preferably online. Our other community practitioners are wanting the more informative 90-min. ACE Interface training, which a number of us in the community are trained to provide.

Can you help??

Thanks!

I look forward to hearing more from you!

20 minutes is nowhere near enough time. You can just tell them that the paradigm shift from "What's wrong with you?" to "What happen to you?".  And give the class a certificate for Trauma Informed.  ACES awareness needs and in-depth understanding so individuals will come away with a true empathy for people they are serving. Over the past 5 years I have talked with many professional people about aces and when I get onto my soap box, it's more than 20 minute.  From Doctors, nurses, firefights, teachers and paramedics no one picked up the ball to carry it any further.
