I'm hoping to help a family member identify a therapist in Milwaukee or greater Southeast Wisconsin who is very skilled with EMDR. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Karen Key: EMDR clinicians who are also certified in the O'Shay/Paulsen EMDR protocols-which reportedly address 'traumatic events' occurring between conception and ages 3-7, when we begin to verbally integrate memory, may be a factor to consider. "EMDRIA" may be an appropriate search acronym, as well as just "EMDR". Various 'levels' of skill such as those EMDR clinicians rated as at "Facilitator Level" (highest level-according to one EMDR Clinician's printed newsletter I saw in the mid 1990's). Hopefully the EMDR website will have a search function based on zip code for you.
Affiliated Wellness Group has clinicians trained in EMDR, and I believe one also provides training to other therapists to learn EMDR. They have two locations (one in Milwaukee, and one in Delafield - western suburb of Milwaukee).
Go to the EMDR web site. Yes, there is an organization that certifies people in EMDR. Look for someone who is a Level II EMDR specialist. Then interview them. See if they listen and are responsive. I wish you the best. Carolyn

I know of several therapists who are certified in EMDR in Milwaukee. It would be helpful to have a general idea of the type of issue that the person is looking to work on.
To find EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) members who have to have the highest level of training, please check the EMDRIA website at EMDRIA.org. You can see the additional credentials for therapists who are EMDR Certified and even further credentialed as EMDRIA Approved Consultants. You can find links to websites along with information and videos about EMDR Therapy.
