Hello. I am in the beginning stages of creating a resilience initiative in my small, 15k-20k community in Ohio. Has anyone else created a resilience initiative or trauma-informed community in a small town? I would like to connect with you if you have.

I too am trying to create the same thing...in Seattle...maybe we can chat?
Check out awcommunities.org. Alive and Well Communities started here in thethe Louis area and has since grown to surrounding areas as well. Lots of great info and ideas for building community resiliency!
*St. Louis area. Please excuse my typos!
Tarpon Springs developed the FIRST trauma-informed community, and they are similar in size. They have a community page here - you should check it out!
Hello-
We are starting in an even smaller community - rural northern Maine, about 2K people. In the educational phase now, next is getting our board of directors and community meetings to set goals and objectives from the grassroots. I am grateful for the opportunity to see what the rest of the world is doing.

HI everyone- i encourage everyone to check out our Growing Resilient Communities (GRC 2.0) documents (found HERE) and Ingrid (ICockhren@acesconnection.com), our Midwest Community Facilitator can get you started, Treston & Erica.
And Cissy (CWhite@acesconnection.com) can help with Maine.
And Jennifer is correct, Tarpon Springs Florida has a wealth of experience (we include many of their tools on our GRC documents). On their home page you will see several of their champions and you can reach out to them.
Hi All- I've been looking for similar posts on this site for a bit now! I'm a social worker/new doctoral student (and trauma educator in the community) and hoping to focus on how communities heal trauma through harnessing their resilience and gather stories around this. I would love to be part of a group that shares what is happening!

Hello All,
I am Grateful for your help and concern
I am actually purchasing some property to start this Resilient Community...this will enable our organization to provide housing along with professional behavioral healthcare and providing an outpatient detox modality used for Opiates.
I am a therapist and counselor so if you are a professional or subject matter expert...Please send me any pertinent links and attachments on this Topic.
This for me is the "New Green Deal" for Addiction, Stress and Social Healthcare Recovery from generational stress and trauma.
Thx.alfred
Hi, I echo the recommendation regarding Tarpon Springs. They are a very similar sized community. In addition to resources about them on their own website and here on ACEs Connection they were a Mobilizing Action for Resilient Communities community and you can find information about them on the MARC website marc.healthfederation.org
Caroline Campbell please feel free to contact me about the Philadelphia ACE Task Force.
I would like to hear more...I am way out here in Seattle and Caroline...I wish you were here! Can we chat? 206-412-2053 or alfred_wht@yahoo.com
At The Center for Trauma Resilient Communities we help with communities of all sizes! https://www.crossnore.org/cent...silient-communities/

Hi Alfred,
Are you connected with the work in the surrounding areas of Seattle? There is a WA State Community Page here on ACEs Connection, and Whatcom Family and Community Network is doing some great things around ACEs/Resilience. Kitsap Strong and Thurston Thrives might also have something you would be interested in modeling it after. Staff from all of these organizations were very open when we started asking about experiences. We recently started the Tacoma-Pierce County ACEs Connection community as a result of this as well, and Project Child Success is doing work with Strengthening Families 5 Protective Factors framework.
Hi Everyone:
I love seeing all the new communities bubbling up. A few ways to explore what other communities have done and are doing to consider below though lots of great stuff has already been shared above:
- Check all the ACEs Connection Communities. Please know most are based around a geographic area and have counterpart on the ground efforts as well as site presence. Others are organized by topic and don't meet in person but connect across sectors and geographies, online. All are welcome to all.
- For the more visual types, check out Mapping the Movement, here.
- Our webinars are great places to learn more about what specific initiatives, individuals, and sectors are doing & for sharing some general principles when starting and growing communities.
- âStrategic Advocacy: Winning Policy Change without Crossing the Lobbying Line,â co-hosted by CTIPP, third in the series: Thursday, March 14, 2019
- Self-Healing Communities Model, co hosted with CTIPP, second in the series: Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019
- New Alaska statute directs state policy to incorporate principles of brain development, co-hosted with CTIPP, first in the series: Friday, Jan. 11, 2019
- The trauma toll on pediatric immigrants, refugees and their families: Friday, December 14, 2018
- Jim Sporleder on Trauma-informed Schools: November 19, 2018
- Teaching trauma-informed practices to students and residents in health care fields: May 14, 2018
- The state profiles can give a high level overview. Please use the comments to make sure to add your initiative if you don't see it listed.
- There's lots and LOTS of stories on ACEsTooHigh as well as on the MARC website with mpre details and examples.
- For a brief article about some different frameworks and approaches, guidelines, tips, this might be helpful. It includes our own GRC 2.0 framework created by @Jane Stevens, as well as links to the Pair of ACEs, Self-Healing Communities, etc. An updated version isn't yet available (as we just finished presenting on that for the Creating Trauma Sensitive Schools Conference) but it's got the basics.
- One of the things that @Robin Saenger of Peace4Tarpon generously shared with a few of us here at ACEs Connection as we spoke of Creating Trauma Sensitive Communities at the Creating Trauma Sensitive Schools Conference is the importance of this quote (also, isn't Robin's art in this slide amazing?)
I hope some of that is helpful.
And hello - @David Cote: Let me know when you want to take next step RE: Maine.
Cissy

Thank you I am going to print this!
Can anyone tell me how I can just keep all of this pertinent info in one file format so I can access it across multiple online platforms?
These Links are Excellent!

Hi Alfred,
I think Kody Russell with Kitsap County is a good connection for you, I see someone else mentioned him and also folks in Bellingham with the Whatcom County community and family network (Kristi Slette is director). Here in Walla Walla we continue to build a resilient community (our County is about 60,000 and Walla Walla itself is 32,000 folks). Our website (www.criresilient.org) offers some resources. Our June conference might be helpful as you dive in too, many presenters will be sharing their stories of their respective journeys in this work. Thank you,
Teri Barila
