Hi beautiful Community!

I have started 3 new Support Groups for Adult Survivors of Child Abuse here in Houston, thanks to ASCASupport.org and the Morris Foundation.  Two of the Support Groups I facilitate are for women in recovery at a half-way house.  I want to educate these courageous woman, most of whom have children, about the realities of CSA and how it has affected them over their lifespan.

I understand the importance of bringing in the Resiliency questionnaire at the same time as I introduce the ACE Study Questionnaire, but I wanted to ask for any thoughts on the best way to inform without offering hope for these women's futures.

When I first met Dr. Vincent Filetti three years ago, I thought I had found the holy grail in the ACE Study, and to a degree, I did.  But several months later, I found myself discourage and a little depressed about the hard cold truth of the damage that is done to children, and as they grow into adulthood.  That's when I read about Resiliency.

So in the past, I have shared both the ACE Study Questionnaire along with the Resiliency Questionnaire, but feel I am lacking more strong evidence on the Resiliency side.

I don't want any person to feel that they are doomed by their ACE Score, and would really appreciate any and all thoughts about how to best share this important research without making people feel that their fate has already been sealed.

Many thanks for all of your help.  I'm here in Houston, TX and would also love to know of others who are ACE Trauma informed in this area?

Many thanks,

Randa Fox, Founder of Not On Our Watch America Foundation          www.notonourwatch.net

Fate whispers to the warrior, ‘You cannot survivor the storm.’  And the warrior whispers, ‘I AM THE STORM.’

We have come together to face our past, united in survival, determined to rebuild our lives, by healing the pain, and transforming our shame.  We will find comfort in our safe places wherever they may be.  Feelings can be felt, memories can be recalled and sensations can be soothed.  We close our meeting now with renewed faith in our power, armed with self-knowledge, fed by our strength drawn from survival. –

Hello Randa,  I think groups are incredibly effective.  Over the past two years, I have been building a curriculum to help people overcome trauma and it will be published in February-March.  It is a psycho-educational program that can be lead by a paraprofessional or a professional.  It includes many activities.  I hope this is something that you can use.  I am attaching a summary of the program. I wish you the best.

Hi Carolyn!

I would appreciate seeing your the summary of the curriculum you have been working on over the past several years.  I did not see a summary attachment, and I so appreciate your support.  Please if you can resend or point me in the right direction!  Many thanks, Randa

Randa, What is the Resiliency Questionnaire that you use?  Is this something I can access?  Thank you!

Hi Marti!

Check out this site - there are several, but this gives in depth information about the ACE Study and also a questionnaire on Reslience.  Hope it helps.  And if I find others, I will certainly share.

Randa,  Deborah Tucker of _____, Texas was the previous Exec. Director of the National Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, and worked that job from Texas. She's still residing there in Texas, and doing similar work, I believe. I don't immediately recall the organization she's now working with.

Thanks so much Peter.  Yes it does take time, but I so firmly believe that every institution in our country should understand and implement the ACE Study findings into their work.  This includes the Judicial System, the Medical Community, Churches, Higher Education and Pre-K - 12, and of course families.

I appreciate your taking the time to reach out.

Randa
