I am working with an organization with an active TIC committee and they are wanting to include past or present consumers on their committee. We’re looking for any resources regarding best practices, guidelines or frameworks, or tips. TIA.

I work in a secure forensic mental health setting and we actively talk with our various treatment programs about clients that they feel are in a place to actively attend with our staff all of our Mission Planning teams. We also have a Consumer Involvement Team with includes our Social Services Dpt Director and a Client Advocate (deals with client grievances) and is also a Certified Peer Specialist employed by our facilty to lead this team. Additionally, we have a Social Worker on one of our Treatment Programs that holds a Consumer Council Meeting monthly to identify things they are concerned about within our facility or with services being provided. We also employ 4 part time Peer Specialists (individuals who are able to share their recovery story -mental illness/substance use with clients to encourage and support them in their personal recovery goals. Peer Support is considered a principle of Trauma Informed Care. We also conduct Client Surveys and have clients actively participate in Environmental Surveys and assist us in interviewing for staff positions when possible. Hope this is helpful, feel free to email me at Ladonna.beachy@dmh.mo.gov
I would suggest browsing ACEs Connection's resource list of TI guides, presentations, and tools. Hope this helps!
