I am in search of interventions that provide people who struggle with a combination of chronic pain, substance use history, mood disorders and ACEs with holistic alternatives to prescription narcotic medications (especially opioids and benzodiazipines). Would love to learn about any research studies, clinics or other programs that are looking at these issues in a holistic manner. Thanks!

Yoga has been found to be very helpful for PTSD and chronic pain. See this website. http://www.traumacenter.org/re...esearch_overview.php

Take a look at the work Jeanne Segal has done for mindfulness and emotional well being. Here is the link:
The best intervention for substance abuse and chronic pain I have seen is biofeedback. It takes only 10 sessions to have maximum effect and often has dramatic effects, including smoking cessation which is one of the hardest addictions to break.

PTSD is part of the symptom picture for people with chronic pain, substance use disorders, mood disorders and ACEs. EMDR therapy is extremely effective in eliminating PTSD symptoms, and is also helpful with these collateral issues. See articles in the Journal of EMDR Research and Practice.
I am an EMDR trained clinician and specialize in the treatment of PTSD, trauma and dissociation and work with many high ACE survivors. It's very useful for these clients to incorporate a wholistic approach that includes somatic work, Yoga, mindfulness and other forms of meditation
I have specialized in Chronic Pain Management for 40 years. I am a dentist (DMD) and a clinical social worker (LCSW). I treat the EMOTIONAL COMPONENT of CHRONIC PAIN. I treat patients in Alcohol & Drug Rehabs so I'm quite family with the co-morbidities of chronic pain, addiction, depression, anxiety, & dissociative disorders. I have lectured on the topic and address the problem of treating our patients without benzo's and narcotics and rely on lots of other protocols (some holistic some not). Here is a list from one of my slides listing a variety of treatments. Of course, if we spoke, I could elaborate on each... especially Energy Psychology. If anyone is interested, you may call me anytime to discuss this topic.
