Pervasive Cultural Myth Dispelled by New Research

Many loving parents spank their children. And many parents believe that as long as they have a loving bond with their child, the spanking will not have destructive effects. A recent study of over 3,000 families shows that this is not the case. A loving connection and maternal warmth do not protect against the damaging effects of spanking.

Thanks for sharing this.  I wasn't aware of it.  I know that Delaware created legislative language in their child abuse laws that including "intent to cause pain," which in essence is a spanking ban.  However, there is also still legislation on the books excluding parents from the assault laws afforded to every adult.  So it is legal and not legal to spank in Delaware.

What really blows my mind is that the press has not picked up this research!
