Hey Family: I am so codependent I thought of you rather than myself when I read this new solution.

The idea is if we share our story more than (say) 3 times we reinforce it on a cellular level. To the degree we have reinforced our "story" it can be rewired with eye movement is my hope

EMDR is wild stuff ... I was introduced to it last week. I was given the basic concept.  My anger button was triggered so I just rolled my eyes around and muscles cracked down into my lower shoulder blade.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.  Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal.  EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma.  When you cut your hand, your body works to close the wound.  If a foreign object or repeated injury irritates the wound, it festers and causes pain.  Once the block is removed, healing resumes.  EMDR therapy demonstrates that a similar sequence of events occurs with mental processes.

Peace

I have a good many friends who use EMDR well, and describe it as an series of eye movements that re-balance the brain, in everyday terms. The facilitator provides moving cues to alternating sides of the body and eyes, essentially. One problem with it is you need both user and facilitator, so there are a group of EP protocols that use this general feature in a protocol named '9 Gamut,' that the user can later do on themselves, to achieve similar results.  In this way the clients are treated then later resourced for self-care.

I'm consistently excited by the rapidly developing connections between studies in neuroplasticity, somatic studies and psychoimmuniology and epigenetics. There is so much hope here, both already realized and in use, and implicit in each new study.  I'd love to be a part of a group that meets from time to time in conversation about these fields, how they inform one another, and supporting one another in growing our understanding and use, in service to our clients.

Good Morning Jondi; That was a fun read ... thanks for "all that". I find myself excited about the idea this work may be effecting our species. There is so much evidence for our collective consciousness  with each new day.

I hope to be trained in this  EMDR modality soon.

Undoing 7 Generations of dysfunction with eye movements ... R US.

Maybe it's like the group I belong to that meets once a month as a peer support Trauma workers call? We Skype or Zoom and discuss, inform, question, support in a very simple structure so everyone's heard, respected.  I'm thinking this idea might be a good descendant of my old online radio show forums I used to hold and present as a resource to others.  You can also see a version of this in Guy MacPherson's Trauma Therapist podcasts.

Does that help further the convo and possible creation of such, for us?

Hey Now Robert: My list of ACE qualifiers will be subjected to EMDR as a way to minimize and perhaps eliminate the symptoms of hyper sensitivity and resulting "shut down"?

I look forward to my first EMDR session for clarity and progress. I am particularly excited about knowing how repeating the stories from ACEs only reinforces them. Seems this form of non habitual behavior can break those neurological  connections which blah blah blah my mind. Peace

Indeed, new ways of approaching and deconstructing the event is critical to their successful, safe re-consolidation.  For this reason I teach the professional EFT methods of gentle titrating of each singular aspect, systematically, and with complete attention to its somatic, emotional felt sense and cognitive processing. In this way we do not burden, harm or further inflict suffering upon the client, rather offer a way to effectively 'ReTell instead of ReLive' their traumatic events.  EMDR contains key ingredients also within the EFT protocol set for the safe processing of these troubling client memories, but also provides a feature whereby the client can later engage with the protocol for subsequent self-care.

<<<protocol for subsequent self-care.>>> what a concept.

Thanks again Jondi. EFT is an umbrella modality for rewiring experiences?  To Titerat; feels like a safe word.

You use the word aspect in relation to <<complete attention to its somatic, emotional felt sense and cognitive processing.>>>. Could you draw that out for my pea brain. What I see while reading that is an exercise in mindfulness?

Best

Sure thing, Dale, and apologies for my typos - to 'titrate out' is simply my best expression for deliberate, purposefully slow attention to each detail, at a rate that is safe, comfortable and thorough for each client's experience.

Bigger words aside, this is to give complete attention (through Presence and conscious or Active Listening) to the client's troubling event memory, and apply  compassionate and skilled facilitation of each unfolding serial detail.  We are applying the Tapping protocols mindfully, beginning with our work targeting the body's threat detection process and cycling of the autonomic nervous and limbic systems. This is 'down regulating,' by engaging the parasympathetic system to begin sending the opposite hormones and chemicals that allow the body to return to stasis and re-set.  In other words, we are helping the client to complete their natural threat cycle.  (It is one of the mechanisms suspected behind 'sister modalities' of EFT/TFT and EP's efficacy, from the collection of evidence-based and evidence informed field trials published in peer-reviewed journals.)

Coupled with the above, we may also apply a protocol procedure shared, for the most part, with EMDR, wherein the brain/neurology is accessed and re-balanced, for lack of a better word, as well as the somatic expression of the disturbance in the physical body.  The procedure in EP is called '9-Gamut Procedure' or 'Bridge.'  In essence, there are several features EP/EFT/TFT offer in treating the ACE's or traumatic event:  simultaneous, kinesthetic Tapping upon certain acupressure points, plus eye movement related to re-integrating balanced brain functionality, paired with accessing the right brain-left brain, through invoking serial memory with music (song) and simple sequential counting.

And it all appears deceptively simple, easy and without complexity.  You are welcome to private message me for a first-hand experience of this; I decided against offering another free, open call for anyone interested, as it was received as commercial and conversionary.
