Myself and a colleague at another agency are partnering to find/develop a parenting class that would include the following  topics:

1) Child/youth development

2) Child abuse

3) Trauma

4) Parent-Child Communication - active listening, etc.

5)Discipline techniques

6) Conflict Resolution and Refusal Skills

7)Health and Wellness

A bit of context. My colleague runs a 5-week (2-21/2 hours each) parenting class. She often encounters parents either court-ordered or referred by CYS. These parents are in the class usually because there has been some kind of violence in the home.  As the course unfolds, she finds that many parents learn that their current parenting style reflects that of at least one of their own parents.'  So together we want to be able to address the issues of child abuse and trauma directly within the same basic format.

Any help in pointing us toward viable resources is greatly appreciated, whether it is off-the-shelf-ready curricula or individual activities. Thank you!

Hi Mike:

Have you checked out the Handouts section in the Parenting with ACEs group? It has the ACEs and Resilience hand-out which is great as well as lots of other resources. The presentations and webinars section might help as well.

When I do presentations for parents I often bring in the voices of others. There are videos with others parents as well as people talking about parenting.

Finally, stay tuned because we're actually working on developing some materials now, by and for parents, in the Parenting with ACEs group that cover six of the 8 items posted above. It will be ready to go and share when it's done. But we're not that yet.

Feel free to post this same thing to the Parenting with ACEs group as a discussion or a post.
