Hello, I run the nonprofit EmpowerSurvivors ( www.EmpowerSurvivors) which is located in Stillwater,MN. I am currently looking for proven group programs that aid in the recovery of childhood sexual abuse. Is there a peer group program that you use at your facility that has been great for those adults looking for healing?

Would love to hear what other organizations are using to aid in their recovery programs.

Thank you in advance,

Elizabeth Sullivan

Hi Elizabeth,

I have two suggestions. I am involved with yogaHOPE, an organization that developed and deploys TIMBo (Trauma Informed Mind Body). TIMBo is a research-based, integrative mind-body practice for resolving the symptoms of trauma and toxic stress, designed specifically for women.  The  TIMBo practice is taught via a manual- based curriculum rooted in trauma theory, the theory of psychosocial development, and theory of emotional anatomy development, and instruction follows gender-responsive principles.  Many of the participants in TIMBo groups at social service agencies in which we work are survivors of childhood sexual abuse and have found the practice of TIMBo extremely helpful. Check out the website for more information. https://www.yhtimbo.org.

Also, the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center has worked with survivors for over 45 years. I know they run groups but I do not know if they have a formal methodology--or at least one that has been systemized so that it easily replicated--but they do great work.

Best of luck!!

Hi Elizabeth,

I'm the Communications Director for Lumos Transforms. You may want to take a look at our program, The Resilience Toolkit. We teach The Toolkit in groups and it is meant to be used as the first step in trauma healing. The mindfulness and movement tools in the program are self-applied and we give participants a lot of agency around selecting which tools work for their bodies and experiences. The Toolkit is a framework for nervous system regulation - helping people find a baseline of safety within their body so that they are prepared to do whatever additional healing work they choose. It would definitely be an appropriate program for this group of people.

You can read more about The Resilience Toolkit here: http://lumostransforms.com/about/

And if you have any questions or are interested in talking with us, I'm happy to set up a call with our President, Nkem Ndefo.

Best of luck to you!
