Public Policy Productions is seeking a full-time Outreach Producer for six to nine months beginning in September. We are launching the release of BROKEN PLACES, a feature documentary about why some children are permanently damaged by early adversity while others are able to thrive. BROKEN PLACES is our 33rd national public television documentary. Over the past four decades our films have won over 150 awards including Peabody, Emmy, and duPont-Columbia awards, as well as two Academy Award nominations.

The Outreach Producer will work with our production team on an ambitious community engagement campaign designed to extend the reach and impact of BROKEN PLACES. Our goal is to use this timely documentary as an educational and advocacy tool to increase public awareness of the devastating impact of childhood adversity as well as the tremendous promise of early interventions that promote resilience. As part of our community engagement campaign, we will coordinate screenings, policy forums, and town hall meetings. This effort will target pediatricians, child psychologists, neurobiologists, social workers, policy makers, educators, service providers, child welfare agencies, juvenile justice organizations, early childhood centers, advocacy groups, and other child development stakeholders. To help event planners use BROKEN PLACES with their constituents, we will develop a Viewer’s Guide, which will include a step-by-step guide on how to host a successful screening event; background information on early childhood adversity and resilience; a set of extensively researched facts and in-depth discussion questions; creative action steps to encourage community participation; and a “Delve Deeper” multi-media resource list of related fiction and non-fiction books, websites, and videos that further explore the issues raised in the film. Lastly, we’ll create a robust website for BROKEN PLACES, which will be hosted by PBS.org, which receives 33 million unique visitors to its site each month. The Outreach Producer will contribute to the research and writing of these print and online materials, manage social media, and plan screening events. We are looking for someone who has experience coordinating community events; understands the early childhood landscape; and knows the key organizations, publications, conferences, blogs, and newsletters in this field.

Located only 15 minutes from the George Washington Bridge in rustic Palisades, New York, Public Policy Productions operates from a completely renovated 200-year-old barn overlooking the Hudson River. While we prefer that the Outreach Producer work at our production office, we are amenable to considering an arrangement for the Outreach Producer to work remotely.

Depending on the date of the PBS broadcast and future funding, the position could be extended for up to six months.  However, after BROKEN PLACES airs on PBS, the Outreach campaign will end and the film will be made available by educational, home video, and digital distributors.

This is soooo exciting! I can't wait! It's going to save lives! When will it air on PBS? Thank you so much for this work.
