The USBG National Charity Foundation’s 1st Annual Social Responsibility Symposium is going virtual on August 2-4, 2021.
The USBG National Charity Foundation (USBG Foundation) is seeking proposals for educational sessions focused on diversity and inclusion, interpersonal violence, stress recognition and management, and several other health and wellness-related issues that affect the alcohol beverage (hospitality) industry. Along with education sessions, this virtual event will provide interactive workshop sessions and local community organization resources. All of this will be provided in a safe and engaging environment that participants can plan to attend no matter what the public health situation brings in 2021.
The USBG Foundation is requesting proposals for educational sessions that focus upon the inaugural year’s theme "Welcoming Inclusion to Cultivate Belonging." This theme recognizes the USBG Foundation’s dedication to listening, educating, and understanding topics that affect the hospitality industry as a whole and the individuals who work in it. As industry members see how the topics play out through the symposium seminars and workshops, they will be able to implement their learnings and similar strategies in their own personal and business spaces.
Following the guidance of the United States Bartenders’ Guild’s Belonging, Representation, Inclusion, Diversity, Generosity, and Encouragement (BRIDGE) initiative, the symposium organizers have committed to including presenters from diverse social identities, including BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Person of Color) experts, speakers, and trainers.
If you are an experienced professional speaker and/or trainer, please consider submitting a proposal. All proposals must be submitted through our online form and process and must be received by 5 PM PT. on Friday, April 30, 2021. No e-mailed proposals will be accepted.
Please review the detailed guidelines on the following pages before submitting your proposal.
Presentation Style and Format
- We anticipate that most sessions will be lectures. However, we are open to multi-presenter lectures or possibly academic panels. There will also be two workshop opportunities.
- Each presenter session will run 60 minutes—please plan on 45 minutes of content and 10-15 minutes of moderated Q&A.
- Each workshop session will run two (2) hours – please plan for a 10-minute break halfway through.
- Session presenters must be comfortable presenting virtually and with prerecording their session. You will be asked to record your session ahead of time and be available for Q&A on the day of your scheduled session.
- Workshop presenters should be prepared to present live virtually as well. Workshops should include audience participation and may include a moderated Q&A as the presenter sees fit.
