I am exploring the possibility of putting together a Trauma Symposium in the Twin Ports (Duluth MN/Superior WI) for fall of 2017.  The goal is to reach a broad audience including but not limited to: early childhood, school staff, non-profits, justice, etc.

I'd like feedback on 1) what are the important topics to include sessions on (certainly ACEs, but what breakouts) that will draw in different stakeholders, and 2) are you aware of presenters who might be willing to help out in Northern WI?

Thanks!

Hello Tracy!

I work for Gundersen National Child Protection Training Center and its programs, Jacob Wetterling Resource Center (JWRC) and Center for Effective Discipline (CED).

Our organization plans a national conference every year, Violence Intervention and Prevention Summit. One the topics covered at the Summit is ACE/TIC and receives such great feedback each year. You can find more info by visiting http://www.gundersenhealth.org...n-prevention-summit/

In regards to speakers, JWRC is located right in Minneapolis, MN and one of our faculty members from JWRC speaks on ACE/TIC across the nation. Jane Straub has been working in the violence prevention and intervention field for over 15 years. She has had the opportunity to work with adult victims of abuse, offenders and children of all ages. In addition to providing advocacy and support to victims and families, Jane has been able to educate the community on topics such as domestic abuse, sexual violence, stalking, trafficking, bullying/cyberbullying, reproductive coercion and the impact of trauma (Ace Study). One of Jane’s goals is to work with a variety of fields such as chemical health, mental health, education, the medical community and business to connect the dots of risk and prevention and to provide services and hope for our children and families.

Feel free to contact me if you want to talk more about the VIP Summit, ACE/TIC trainers or your event for the fall.

Have a good weekend if we don't talk beforehand!

Regards,

Tracy,

This sounds wonderful! I am a Private Practice Therapist and Consultant in Denver, CO. I am trained in Trauma-Informed Care and I utilize EMDR with many of my clients. Additionally, I work with organizations (non-profits, schools, faith-based organizations) to incorporate into their programming how to conduct EMDR in a group setting to serve a wider range of clients in a more cost-effective way. You can learn more about this on my website at www.kellysmythdent.com. If this is a topic that interests you for the conference, I would be happy to schedule a time to discuss it further.

Thanks,

Kelly
