Hello ACES Community
I am seeking a speaker for a panel on Trauma Informed Care and Women of Color or Systems of Oppression. This is a paying position. If there is anyone who can speak about our cultural and societal oppression for women during the prenatal and perinatal period, if you could kindly contact me
Kate
Hi Kate:
Did you happen to see this article? It's got a lot of possible leads. The author works at Rise Magazine. I get lots of great content from them about racial trauma, systemic oppression, and how women of color are particularly vulnerable and unsafe when it comes to the medical system and the child welfare system.
Dr. Renee Boynton Jarrett of Vital Village does presentations on structural oppression and works with parents as a community organizer. She's also a pediatrician and I don't know if she focuses on moms in the prenatal or perinatal period but she might be able to help.
We have posted on these topics, and those and the comments might provide leads. We also have a resource center which might have some leads. Finally, there is a Women's and People of Color Speakers Initiative on FB where you can also post this question if you need more leads.
There's not enough on this important topic. I hope when this event happens, you share about it here so we can attend and/or maybe even write about it as a blog post to help create more resources.
