Does anyone know of any hospital or hospital system in the United States which has worked to integrate trauma-informed practices into their work? Thanks for any direction or ideas!

I presented at the Southeast ACEs Summit held in Ashville last Sept.  I would suggest you follow up with MAHEC (Mountain Area Health Education Center) as they hosted it and there were hospitals that attended and spoke during interactive sessions of experiences attempting to incorporate ACEs.  My greatest concern with hospital systems is using ACEs as part of triage and ranking access to care based upon probability of healing/recovery.  Believe it or not, there were hints that this practice was already being considered.

Hello John,

Thanks for your question.  A number of progressive hospitals are also considering the related subject of secondary trauma, i.e. the emotional and physical impact upon the allied professionals themselves who work with traumatized patients.  A documentary film I have co-produced (see: www.caregiversfilm.com ) is available to address secondary trauma--which can be a good entree for also encouraging an understanding of primary trauma and ACE's in hospitals. My film team this spring led grand rounds at the Hospital of the University of PA and Jefferson Hospital (Sidney Kimmel Medical College).  In a handout which we have used (see attachment below), you'll find a section with links to innovative programs that address secondary trauma and staff needs in medical settings, e.g. the University of Missouri's "forYou" program spells out a care for the caregivers approach. I hope this information is useful as a starting point.  Please feel free to be in touch with me at viccompher@comast.net or 267-266-0842 if you'd like to discuss further.
