I am looking for information about state psychiatric hospitals that are becoming trauma-informed.

One ACEs Connection member suggested that I investigate an initiative of the National Center for Trauma-Informed Care (NCTIC): TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE AND ALTERNATIVES TO SECLUSION AND RESTRAINT  Does anyone have experience with it?

Thanks!

Debbie

Deborah - we have been working in all six of Ohio's state psychiatric hospitals to become trauma-informed.  We actually worked closely with NCTIC to implement this work and are in Phase two.  Be more than happy to hook you up with our "TIC Champions" in each of our hospitals to give you an overview of their work and progress to date.

Fulton State Hospital in Fulton, Missouri has been working on a Trauma Informed Care Initiative for many years. Sept 2014 a new position was created for a Trauma Informed Care Coordinator, which is one of the roles I fulfill at our state hospital that has maximum, intermediate, minimum security settings as well as a high security sex offender unit.

My contact information is: ladonna.Zimmerman@dmh.mo.gov, office phone 573-592-2849 if you are interested in specific information. I am also a part of a statewide panel of organizations that has quarterly webex meetings and once a year an in-person panel that meets to share information and assist other organizations who have a commitment to becoming trauma informed. The panel is facilitated by Patsy Carter in our Department of Mental Health Central Office along with Dr. Andy Blanch of SAMSHA.
