McDonalds Can't Figure Out How Its Workers Survive on Minimum WageΒ -- This caught my eye, because on the financial planning site that McDonalds and Visa developed for their minimum-wage earners, the only way these people could survive economically was to have a second job, beyond the 40 hours a week they work at McD's. And even that second job was not likely to cover basic living costs. Does this make a case for trauma-informed wages? (I'm sure there's a better way to describe this...) Β

I think it makes a great case for trauma-informed wages! Basically they are offering employment that causes an adverse life experience (not a living wage and probably w/o viable health insurance benefits). Also low wages make Social Security retirement impossible b/c low wagesΒ make forΒ low SS benefits at the age of retirement. Sadly part-time and low-wage work have been the trend in so many areas of "industry" within the last 15-20 or so years. The labor movement is not as powerful as it once was. I know some are saying we need a new economic model because we have outgrown capitalism.
